About the Therapist
Janet Sessions is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 15 years of experience in the mental health field. In 2000, while living in the San Francisco Bay Area, she worked at a group home with children, and also provided in-home support for struggling families. In 2007, while working at a residential, therapeutic program for teens, Janet finished graduate school at the California Institute of Integral Studies with a Masters in Integral Counseling Psychology. She chose this school for it’s non-pathologizing model, experiential learning and Buddhist influence. She trained in Gestalt therapy, and throughout graduate school worked at a therapeutic residential program for teens. Since graduate school, Janet has worked in schools and private practice, with adults on probation, and children and teens in an outpatient therapy setting.
Janet has extensive training in family therapy, mindfulness practice, and Gestalt therapy. She has also completed trainings in DBT and EMDR. She believes that an authentic, emotionally safe relationship is the catalyst to change. Janet knows that healing is possible, depression and anxiety do not have to be life sentences, and that emotions live in the body. She is passionate about helping people heal from the effects of early developmental trauma and unstable family systems so that they can develop the awareness and skills necessary for attracting, building and maintaining fulfilling relationships. Additionally, Janet is passionate about supporting the LGBTQI+ community, teens, and individuals experiencing faith transitions.
Janet has been in Utah since 2016 and enjoys exploring the mountains and natural beauty this state has to offer. Her dog, Louie, is often in the room while she works.

The therapist's job is not to fix the client, but to understand the nature of the suffering that is there. In our work together, we sift through the stories, clear the mental debris, and work with the defenses so the true self and deepest natural drive for life can be revealed. When in touch with this drive, void of anger, we can find the clarity, support and motivation to make choices that ease suffering. With proper support, we can take risks to change our familiar responses to pain and follow an authentic, meaningful path.
